Royal Enfield, the world’s oldest surviving motorcycle firm, began its story in the mid-nineteenth century, although Peter Miller traces the earliest roots of the Redditch works back to the 16th century!
This is a very attractive book in its own right, a hardback book printed on fine paper. The copious illustrations, including a vast number of original photographs and factory drawings, catalogue pictures and original factory advertisements, make this book a real delight.
The history and technical contents of the book are unequalled by any other publication in terms of authenticity, reliability and depth of detail. The meticulous description of the development of engines, frames and cycle parts is complemented by year-specific tables of model numbers, names, capacities and prices; records of competition successes and personal details of the company’s workers, management and factory riders.
I know of no comparable book of Royal Enfield’s achievements that contains such a detailed account of the factory’s activities and the machines they produced during the period the book has covered. Unputdownable and thoroughly recommended!
